LHC #334: "The Jasmine Throne" by Tasha Suri. eBook. I liked this very much and put the sequel on my list.
"Maybe you should talk to someone" by Lori Gottlieb. eBook. For office book club. The most interesting bit to me was near the beginning when she was a script assistant in Hollywood, and that was the most creative job she had in the industry. Getting promoted away from that was all about having lunches, not actually creative stuff. I would have felt the same way if I'd ever worked in that industry, but I chose the safe job instead. The therapy parts were fine I guess.
LHC #335: "The Navigating Fox" by Christopher Rowe. Audiobook. I listened to this very charming book in the car. I loved the worldbuilding, it had what was necessary and skipped the rest. How the concept of the knowledgeable animals was developed was great.
LHC #336: "Drowned Country" by Emily Tesh. Hard copy. Sequel, I forgot this one was a sequel and left it too long and didn't really remember what I'd liked about the previous story. Then I googled the author and discovered that I have another book by her on my shelf that I got for Christmas last year. Sigh. This was delightful.
LHC #337: "The Pomegranate Gate" by Ariel Kaplan. eBook. This one grabbed me immediately. I did not want to put it down. I loved the Sephardic take on fairyland.
LHC #338: "The Mimicking of Known Successes" by Malka Older. Audiobook. I read something else by her before and it was okay, I guess, if I recall correctly. This I enjoyed much more! Very entertaining.
"The Overstory" by Richard Powers. Hard copy. I started it in August. It was pretty put-downable, with too many characters for me to reliably keep track of, and some of them never really interfaced with any other storyline. Sometimes it seemed more like a collection of short stories on a theme, chopped up. Also, the cops were fascinating. So ICE-like! Before ICE was a thing!
